The Tulane University Office of Academic Affairs and Provost is leading a multi-phase faculty development initiative designed to advance faculty members' work, foster mentoring relationships, and meet faculty professional development needs. Grant Writer's Seminars and Workshops
- May 12-13, 2025: Write Winning Grant Proposals
Faculty Networking Seminars were established with support from the DW Mitchell Lecture Fund to enable tenure-track faculty (especially junior faculty) to form more robust national/international mentoring networks. This fund supports campus visits by senior faculty from other institutions to present their academic work to the community and participate in state-of-the-discipline discussions with Tulane faculty. Most importantly, the expectation will be that while at Tulane, these visiting colleagues will also spend time with the sponsoring faculty member(s) reviewing their work and academic trajectory.

Faculty Book Manuscript Workshops
Faculty Book Manuscript Workshops were established to support tenure-track faculty (especially junior faculty) in development and completion of high-quality, pre-tenure book manuscripts. Through this program, sponsoring faculty member(s) are able to invite two external reviewers from other institutions and two internal faculty colleagues for a 1-2 day intensive workshop at Tulane, in which the author is provided criticism and feedback to take their near-final manuscript and transform it for publication. The program is open to all tenure-track junior faculty in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.
Spring 2025 Application DUE by 5:00 PM CT on Friday, November 22nd
These one-day retreats include a full day of self-directed writing with the opportunity to meet other participating faculty from across the university. The intent of the retreat is to support faculty in their writing endeavors with quiet, uninterrupted time to write in a motivating environment.
Faculty participants bring their writing materials and a plan for what they want to accomplish, and the day is divided into writing blocs with regularly-scheduled breaks. The writing blocs are used for intensive periods of concentration on writing, while the breaks give faculty an opportunity to network with colleagues across discipline. In addition, refreshing victuals are served throughout the day!
Tulane University recognizes the mentoring process as an essential component of professional development and institutional success. Faculty mentoring offers both institutional and individual faculty benefits. From an organizational perspective, professional mentoring has been shown to increase institutional stability, promote the retention of valued employees, support the preservation of institutional capital, and encourage cultural diversity. Individual mentees gain important institutional insight, professional development, increased job satisfaction, and improved probability of career success. The Oliver Fund Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring seeks to recognize the commitment of senior faculty members to the success of junior faculty and the institution as a whole.
The Oliver Fund Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring, established in 2013, is dedicated to recognizing senior faculty for their commitment to excellence in faculty mentoring. The award will be given on a bi-annual basis beginning in May 2013.
