Teresa Parker is an interdisciplinary scholar who focuses on the vernacular traditions and cultural history of the American South. Prior to her doctoral studies, she served as Deputy Director of Tulane's Newcomb Art Museum and Cultural Programs Manager for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Her writing has appeared in UNC-Chapel Hill’s Southern Cultures journal; the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture; the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities’ Bicentennial History of Art in Louisiana; and numerous museum exhibition catalogues. She serves as Chair of the Louisiana Folklife Commission and on the board of the New Orleans Master Crafts Guild. She holds a Ph.D. in History from Tulane University, an M.A. in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi, and a B.A. in English literature from Haverford College in Pennsylvania.
