Biography

Dr. Torres graduated with honors from the Medical School of the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, where he is originally from. After graduation, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Tecnologico de Monterrey and subsequently became interested in Nephrology after working in Texas as a researcher for the Phase III Trials of the novel Hypoxia-Inducible Factor inhibitors. He completed a Medicine Residency at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans and started his Nephrology fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center but completed it at Ochsner Medical Center.   During his training, Dr Torres participated in multiple research activities mostly in the field of Nephrology and obtained the 2020-2021 Ochsner Research Award for Outstanding Research by Trainee, as well as a 2nd place a SSCI Young Investigator Award in 2020. In addition, Dr. Torres serves as a Reviewer for PLOS ONE editorial.   Dr. Torres joined the Section of General Internal Medicine and the Division of Nephrology in July 2022 and currently serves both as an Academic Nephrologist and as an Academic Hospitalist at University Medical Center and Tulane Medical Center.
