Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting Design

Rachel is an active lighting designer with a passion for telling stories through light and for lighting inhabited spaces in a way that supports her fundamental belief that design reinvigorates neighborhoods, empowers and generates public activity, stimulates financial growth, and most importantly, strengthens Community. Her professional work ranges from designing and assisting on theatrical productions, live television shows and Apple Studio films, as well as, designing the lighting for large architectural interiors and exteriors.  She has also taught lighting design courses at Northwestern University, DePaul University and Columbia College.  A growing interest of Rachel’s is cultural placemaking, in which she works outside of typical theatrical walls and within communities to design creative ways in which to connect people.

Rachel holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Design and Production with a concentration on Lighting Design from California Institute of the Arts under the mentorship of Don Holder.
