Keena Kareem is a native of New Orleans and an alumna of Tulane University, earning a B.S. in geology and the Harold E. Vokes undergraduate student award.  She earned a Ph.D. in geology from Louisiana State University before moving to industry.  She worked as an exploration and development earth scientist at Chevron for 10 years in Deep Water and Onshore basins. After leaving Chevron she embarked on a career in teaching, since academia has always been her passion.  Prior to joining Tulane as a professor of practice, she taught various earth and environmental science courses for a few years at San Jacinto College, Lone Star College, and College of the Mainland in Texas.  Her broad research interests are igneous and metamorphic petrology, volcanology, high-temperature geochemistry, petroleum geology and geochemistry, and environmental science.
