Grant applicants may propose research, travel, or other scholarly activities for the 2024-2025 academic year. A faculty member may collaborate on other proposals without limitation, but there is a $10,000 per year cap on grant funding for any individual faculty member. Faculty who receive grants must submit a brief report describing the impact of the funding. Award announcements are typically sent out in late April/early May.

- Grants for Interdisciplinary Research/Scholarly Collaborations will be reviewed by the Bernick Grant Committee, which comprises one faculty representative per school and chaired by the Provost or his designee.
Types of Grants:
Faculty groups may apply for funding up to $5,000 for scholarly activities that focus on interdisciplinary research collaborations. Grants with specific outcomes will be prioritized (e.g., grant submission, proposal for monographs/books, conferences) and that are linked to the university’s equity, diversity, and inclusiveness priorities. Faculty may propose the creation of a faculty workgroup on a particular topic. Faculty across disciplines would discuss their work and cross-fertilize research. The grant of up to $5,000 could fund meeting expenses as well as research assistant expenses (or an administrative stipend to a faculty member) to administer the group, identify interested faculty and set up meetings.
Faculty may apply for funding up to $1,300 for travel and expenses to attend a conference or to present original research or scholarship. Faculty must have confirmed source of funding to attend conference as this is to be used as supplemental funding.
The application should provide a budget for the travel and explain the importance of the proposed activity to the faculty member’s research, teaching, professional development, and whether the faculty member is invited to make a conference presentation.
Faculty may apply for funding for research expenses of up to $10,000, including, but not limited to, travel expenses, research assistant funding, supplies, equipment, software and books.
Application should explain the importance of the budgeted expense to their research, and the application should be written in a way that can be understood by faculty from a wide variety of disciplines. Applications should include any attempts to fund the research through grants or other outside funding, as well as whether the Bernick Grant will assist in the efforts to obtain other funding.
