Search Waiver Policy for Faculty Appointment
updated 01.01.26
In rare circumstances, and on a case-by-case basis, the requirement to conduct an open search before review for appointment may be waived. Please read the 'Search Waiver Policy for Faculty Appointment' above for more information.
How to Request a Search Waiver
Faculty Search Waivers are requested via WaveWorks when creating a Job Requisition. Please follow these steps to request a Search Waiver:
- Create a new Job Requisition in WaveWorks.
- View our video and step-by-step guide above for detailed instructions for creating a Job Requisition.
- If the position does not exist, please follow your school/unit's new position request/approval process.
- In Section 5, Details, select yes in the Search Waiver drop-down menu.
- In the Waiver Justification drop-down menu, select the reason. We do not require additional documents for search waivers if you selected one of the justification options in the drop-down menu.
In section 9 of a job requisition in WaveWorks select “Yes, not posted” in the Automatically Open Requisition for Sourcing drop-down menu.
Note:
Search waivers for faculty, postdocs, and librarians are reviewed by the Office of Academic Affairs as part of the approval workflow. Adjunct positions do not need a search waiver. If you would like a specific candidate to apply for your adjunct position but are not opening a search, please see the instructions above.
